Language Arts
Reading daily for a purpose - both fiction and nonfiction
- Researching and citing evidence from differing medias
- Writing for investigation, interpretation and opinion
- Increased vocabulary and developing word choices in both speaking and writing
- Introduction to debate and appropriate argument
- Development of necessary verbal and communication skills
- Utilize prior knowledge to develop a deepening understanding of the conventions of standard English grammar and usage
- Investigating the concepts of ratios and rate, and how they relate to percentages.
- Completing students’ understanding of the four operations through division of whole numbers, division by a fraction, and operations on multi-digit decimals.
- Extending students’ knowledge of number lines both vertically and horizontally using rational numbers in real world situations
- Continue students’ arithmetic work to include using letters as “stand ins” for numbers and that it is done exactly as it is with numbers.
- Utilizing students’ previous knowledge to develop understanding of formulas for area, volume and surface area.
- Prior knowledge of data will move into analyzing as students begin to think and reason statistically.
Science

- Describe regional weather patterns and its predictability and the data to provide information on complex interactions
- Responsibilities of citizens and government for an acceptable republic.
- Exploring the ancient river valley cultures.
- Comparing the early Greek and Roman empires.
- Examine the Middle Ages of Europe
